Participation of STU-ICTP in the UN Italian Interagency Meeting, Brindisi, Italy from 6 to 7 October 2022

STU-ICTP recently participated in the UN Italian Interagency Meeting, which took place in Brindisi, Italy from 6 to 7 October 2022.

The main highlights of the meeting were:

 

GS Salary Survey:

o   new methodologies (achieved as a result of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) working group after 2018 negative GS Salary Survey in Rome)

o   new length validity (from 10 to 5 yrs)

o   next Rome survey procedure (to start in January 2023 until summer 2024)

o   Trieste is confirmed to apply Rome scale of the next survey

o   Abolition of dual scale system (i.e. distinction between staff recruited on or after a certain date)

 

Post adjustment:

o   Revised GS salary scales as of 1 Apr 2022 (annex attached) [rev. Rome 98: https://www.un.org/Depts/OHRM/salaries_allowances/salaries/italy.htm]

o   Abolition of dual scale system (i.e. distinction between staff recruited on or after a certain date)

 

UN Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy

o   to be applied by all UN agencies

New Parental leave (to replace the current maternity, paternity and adoption leave)

o   ICSC working group recommendations for an improved and more flexible policy; eliminating disparities based on organisation, gender, category of staff or category of duty stations

>  proposal 1: 16 weeks before the birth and 10 weeks after

>  proposal 2: 12 weeks before the birth and 14 weeks after

 

Flexible Work vs Alternative Working Arrangements

o   Flexible Work: voluntary adjustment to working hours and/or locations and initiated by the UN personnel

o   Alternative Working Arrangements: are decided by the Organization

o   All UN Italian agencies have teleworking arrangements, most of them adopted a teleworking policy, which differs from agency to agency.
